7 (MORE) REASONS YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR

You're staring at your closet again, hoping there is something presentable (and clean) that you can throw on.

Very quickly, you recognize that all your best clothes are dirty and you really don't want to wear the clean ones.

For some reason, every time you look into your closet, you think that you went shopping with a blindfold on and wonder what in the heck happened to your brain when you walked into the store.

I have definitely been there.

I've looked back at pictures like:

"HUH!?"

I've opened my closet and been like:

"WHAAA WHY!?"

I've torn apart my room trying to find one thing that would make me look like I gave a crap that morning.

You've got nothing to wear.

Never fear, Tiffany is here.

(I'm so sorry. I couldn't hold back the corny)

I know, you're busy. You work from home a lot of days. You're building your email list, and you really forgot to think about why your yoga pants became apart of your daily outfit choice. It isn't until you were invited to a blogging conference that you realize you hate your clothes – that's when all hell breaks lose.

You want to look presentable but you feel like you don't have the clothes, or the time to do it.  There are many reasons you feel like you have nothing to wear and I'm here to share 7 more that will whip that closet into shape!

1. THE COLORS YOU HAVE DON'T LOOK GOOD ON YOU

THE PROBLEM

You walked by a mirror during your lunch break and just felt like your skin looked dull and lifeless. You keep trying skin brightening masks but it doesn't matter, you still look dull.  You look at your closet and hate everything in it.

It isn't that you hate your clothing. It is that you subconsciously recognized how bad the colors look on you.

This is a common issue. You have a tendency to buy trending colors because they are so freakin' cute, so in, and so available. As you are shopping, it is much easier to go with what the associate told you was "so in"

This might work fine every once in a while if you happen to fall into the current trending color group. If not –

well, it's a wrap.

THE SOLUTION

First, check out the post How To Find Your Signature Colors and Why You Should Want To.

This will help you find the colors that look great on you and give you a base to develop a color palette for your wardrobe. Once you have a palette, shopping will become more black and white (pun intended) and you will have WAAAY better shopping experiences!

2. YOU ARE BORED WITH WHAT YOU HAVE

THE PROBLEM

Maybe you are a business coach for designers and you love bold colors, but your closet is full of neutrals. You love design and you know how to produce dynamic digital images, but you have trouble figuring out how to translate it to your closet. You don't really think about this as a reason but you are tired of all the black and white!

When you feel uninspired by the pieces in your wardrobe, you start feeling like your closet is empty – even if it is overflowing with unworn clothes.

THE SOLUTION

First, do a closet purge to get rid of the stuff that's boring you out of your mind. You don't need that.

Next, build an inspiration board of clothes that actually intrigue you so that you can feel compelled to get something you feel excited about the next time you are shopping!

3. YOUR CLOTHES ARE WORN OUT

THE PROBLEM

Your favorite jeans are ripped and that sweater you wear everyday has pills all over it.

A lack of attention to your wardrobe may cause you to finally reach the end of your clothes life you seriously need to refresh!

THE SOLUTION

Get your closet detoxed. Then you want to make a list of everything that you need. Once you are prepared, hit the mall, the thrift stores, or your favorite online shopping boutique and give your wardrobe some new life!

4. YOUR CLOTHES NEED REPAIR

THE PROBLEM

Every time you pull that super sweet blazer out to wear, you remember that the button fell off AGES ago and you STILL haven't sewn it back on.

Maybe you've got some broken stitches along a seam of your favorite t-shirt, so it got "benched"

THE SOLUTION

Put the dang button back on. It would take like three seconds.

If you are unable to complete the repairs yourself, take it to a tailor (or an extremely kind friend that you now owes a glass of wine) and get it fixed.

Now if you KNOW for a fact that it ain't never getting fixed, do yourself a huge favor and drop it off at one of those handy donation boxes by a grocery store.

You'll thank me later.

5. YOU LISTENED TO SOMEONE WHO LIED

THE PROBLEM

So that shirt was on sale.

The sales associate assured you that you would be the freakin' bell of the ball.

You put it on one day and take it off immediately saying:

"I need to save it for something special"

"I have to buy something that looks good with it"

"I just rather wear my favorite t-shirt today"

THE SOLUTION

All along, you should have been be saying"

"This shirt is a sheer abomination to mankind"

The moment you admit that you never liked the shirt and it kinda looks like trash on you, is the moment where you earn back a little freedom.

Just donate it. (or return it if it is still in the retailer's guidelines!)

Thank me later.

6. YOUR CLOTHES ARE DISJOINTED

THE PROBLEM

You have a closet full of cute pieces and they mostly look great on you, only none of them go together.

Having an intentional wardrobe takes much more thought then just getting cute stuff on sale. You need a strategy that will help you to make great buying decisions.

THE SOLUTION

Purge your closet and make a list of what you need.  After you have built your inspiration hit the mall! When you are shopping, be sure to ask your self:

"Do I have shoes I can wear with this?" (Super important!)

"Can I wear this with at least three things in my closet?" (Does not apply if it is a dress.)

7. YOUR TASTES HAVE CHANGED

THE PROBLEM

When you were young (like 2 years ago) you loved some crazy patterns and being all mismatched. Now you feel like you need a little more sophistication and your wardrobe makes you feel like a college freshman.

THE SOLUTION

Simple.

Purge that closet, find your best colors and find inspiration for your new found style! Sometimes we get stuck thinking that our style has to stay the same but it doesn't. What you want (and need) is a versatile wardrobe that will stand the test of time and hold up to your changing mind. Avoid filling your closet with super trendy items and you'll be golden, dear friend.

The best place to start is cleansing your closet!
