HOW TO CREATE A STUNNING LOOK WITH A VINTAGE COAT
If you follow me on Instagram, you will find that I have an unnatural love (obsession) with vintage coats. There is something beautiful about the quality, fit and styles that just makes you smile and feel all pretty.
Today I bring to you some ways to wear your vintage coat with modern flair.
The first thing you will want to do is get a vintage coat. My favorite place to find them are at thrift stores because they have a lot of variety and really unique selections. Be prepared to go through a bunch of crappy things before you find gold.
Now if you are a little reluctant to walk into a thrift store, try shopping at a vintage store that has already curated a beautiful collection for you. You can also check out the multiple vintage shops on to find some great pieces.
To create complete look with your vintage coat, you will want to start with a simple base that you can add layers to. In this look, I chose to rock a long sleeved t-shirt with my distressed vintage Levi's.
To add texture, I chose to pile on a large scarf that is the same color as my coat in order to keep from distracting from the whole look.
I added an additional layer of texture by wearing leopard printed booties that picked up on the cream in the coat and scarf. Being very intentional about the way you style your coat to compliment the pieces in your overall look is the way to achieve a style versus simply wearing a coat over your clothes.
Last, always consider the shape and length of the coat when you are considering what goes underneath. Because this coat does not have a lot of shape to it, I was sure to accent my waist with high waist jeans and an belt. The length of the coat works well with the jeans because it cuts the body of in a place that flows with the rule of thirds.
Here is another example of how to style a vintage coat.
